Rei Kawakubo speaks LOUD. Loud shapes, Loud colors, loud material and loud prints. Her Spring 2001 collection is no exception. Titled Optical shock, it mixed camouflage with Op art patterns and floral prints all over.
While it may not have been shocking to see her doing these sort of things it sure looked like she wanted to cause havoc. The more you go through the collection the louder and chaotic it becomes. All of a sudden model are wearing bubble wrap hats, plastered with tinfoil and tape all over them, the print, thus the optical illusion, getting wilder and more confusing.
Yet it seems there is degree of discipline, maybe its the camouflage which gives us the impression of her models being soldiers to confuse the enemy.
