Undoubtedly, Katharine Hamnett's most famous work is the invention of slogan t-shirts. Big black fonts plastered over a white oversized t-shirt saying „CHOOSE LIFE“ or „STOP ACID RAIN“, were the pioneer of slogan tees which we so many of today. While she already started her fashion career in the 70s it was the 80s that were a large success for her. She started to influence British fashion and politics with her bold attire. Yet it was not always these loud t-shirts that draw attention. For example, this lightweight jacket was inspired by Japanese school uniforms.
